Empowering Birmingham’s Youth: My Day Volunteering with the EY Foundation

Recently, I had the privilege of volunteering with the EY Foundation, an independent charity dedicated to supporting young people from low-income backgrounds in Birmingham. The experience was truly inspiring, and I wanted to share some of the highlights with you.

Before the volunteering day, I was filled with anticipation and excitement. I was eager to connect with teenagers from underprivileged backgrounds, knowing that we shared similar beginnings. As someone who also came from humble origins, I understood the importance of providing guidance and support to those who may be facing similar challenges.

During the day, I had the opportunity to interact with teenagers who harboured ambitious dreams and entrepreneurial aspirations. From wanting to start a car tinting business to venturing into the property market, their ideas were brimming with potential. I also spoke with a young designer who was passionate about pursuing a career in the creative industry.

In sharing my own journey with them, I emphasised the importance of perseverance and determination in the face of adversity. I wanted them to know that success is attainable, regardless of background or circumstances. The feedback I received from the teenagers, including a heartfelt message on LinkedIn, reinforced the impact of our interaction.

One of the most memorable aspects of the day was witnessing the incredible talent that exists within our city. Birmingham is brimming with potential, and it’s essential that we provide our youth with the guidance and support they need to flourish. As entrepreneurs, we have a responsibility to serve as positive role models and mentors to the next generation.

That’s why I encourage my fellow entrepreneurs to consider volunteering their time to support initiatives like the EY Foundation. By investing in the future of our youth, we can empower them to achieve their dreams and create a brighter tomorrow for our community.
